Personality

Edwin believes in teamwork and values the input of his captains and commanders within his commands. He often says, “No one solves problems in a vacuum—not even in space.” His engineering background helps him analyze situations methodically. Edwin uses humor to diffuse tense situations.  Edwin is also detail-oriented and has a habit of getting stuck in them sometimes.  As a former engineer, he’s learned to handle crises calmly, knowing that modeling them for his crew can make a critical difference.

History

Early Life 2356-2374

His father was an engineer at a local shipyard, while his mother worked as a schoolteacher. Edwin was fascinated by the intricate machinery and the comings and goings of starships at the local spaceport where his father worked. He spent hours listening to his father’s stories about fixing engines and designing better systems for cargo vessels.

Edwin showed an exceptional aptitude for understanding how things worked from a young age. Much to his mother’s annoyance, he often built classic radios and other older technology. His father, however, encouraged this curiosity, gifting him tool sets over the years and encouraging him in the basics of mechanics and engineering.

In school, Edwin excelled in mathematics and science.

His fascination with space began during a school trip to the Liverpool Spaceflight Museum, where he learned about Starfleet and engineers’ role in exploring the galaxy. From that moment, his career ambitions became clear. He soon stocked a library of books on starship design and attended and listened to as many lectures on the subject as possible. He would sketch starship concepts in a notebook when he wasn’t studying.

Starfleet Academy 2374-2378

It was a transformative period in his life. He quickly learned that surviving the Academy required more than technical skills. The challenging curriculum and competitive atmosphere pushed him to grow as a student and a leader.

From his first year, Edwin shifted toward collaborative projects, often taking the role of organizer in team-based projects and simulations. His talent for uniting people and collective successes didn’t go unnoticed by his instructors. Though he initially entered the Academy with a single-minded focus on engineering, his leadership potential emerged.

As a Junior, he participated in a command simulation.  He was asked to fill in for a fellow engineering student who had fallen sick that morning.  As a part of the experience, he was able to address areas where communication of mission-critical details was not being relayed to the CO.  He worked quickly to correct the issue.  The XO of the simulation was simulated injured during the scenario, and he was asked to step up into the role, which he performed well above expectations.  He was recommended for future command track classes.  He took several that year and the next, graduating near the top of his class with command experience.

Starfleet 2378-Present

In 2378, he was assigned to Starbase 1 as an engineer officer. He found the station’s size and the varying opportunities for engineering practice exciting. In 2380, he was promoted to shift lead and lieutenant.  He takes part in several extensive refit and repair operations, and in 2384, he was recommended for the USS Mackenzie as Deputy Chief Engineer.  He served until 2386 when the USS Palisade Lake recruited him for the Chief Engineer position.  He was promoted to lieutenant commander in 2390.  In 2392, the XO retires, and the captain advocates for him to step into the role of XO.  He was promoted to commander in 2394 and turned over engineering to his deputy chief.

After ten years of service aboard the Palisade Lake, he applied for the CO position of a Nebula class starship and took command in 2396.  He is promoted to captain in 2401.  A position opened up in late 2401 in Fourth Fleet, and in January 2402, he applied for the Executive Officer position in Task Force 21 and, after some consideration, was awarded the position.
