Summary
Lt. Commander Ibanez is the USS Calistoga’s second officer and Chief Science Officer. He’s been assigned to the Calistoga since he was a JG in 2396, and considers the ship and crew his family. Jason is passionate, creative, loyal and arrogant, making him both an excellent assent and a potential loose canon all at once.
Appearance
Jason looks like he would be at home in an Andorian Blues band. He keeps his dark hair as long as possible within regulations with a well groomed beard and sharp, intelligent eyes. He has a charming, almost cavalier smile that looked perfect in a swashbuckling holoprogram – if only he could invent a device that gave him an automatic sparkle to his teeth.
He stands with a confident, broad posture that makes him appear more muscular than he actually is. He enjoys racquetball, which shows in his lean, athletic form and good reflexes. He loves lounging on this because he thinks it makes him look ‘cool.’
Personality
Creative, sociable and talkative, Jason considers himself the life of the party. He’s an amateur musician, a wannabe poet, and a great problem solver.
Highly social, Jason is equal parts arrogant and charming. Born with very little social fear and the ability to switch from high emotions to calm as easily as others breathe, he can be an unsettling person to interact with. He has a gift of gab – for better or for worse, and loves to talk. He also has a quick temper and a very low brain-mouth filter which gets him in trouble.
Jason is highly extroverted and attempts to maintain an outward persona. He had difficulty sitting with himself and contemplating things – including the consequences of his own actions and his place in the universe.
History
Born on Earth to a Federation scientist and a Starfleet helm officer, Jason enjoyed a happy childhood with his older brother Christopher. He was a good student who dreamed of exploring the stars and worked hard to get into Starfleet Academy.
A bit arrogant and cocky, Jason Ibanez was nonetheless a hard worker who excelled at his academic studies and did well, graduating in the top 10% of his class from Starfleet Academy.
He was posted to the USS Solkath, a Grissom class research vessel. He spent the first two years of his posting learning the ropes of service in the field and making friends with the majority of the crew. In 2390 Jason met the newly reassigned Lieutenant JG. Annabella Moreno. Jason’s confidence and fast sense of humor easily won over the more experienced research scientist and The two formed a fast friendship which blossomed into romance within a year.
In 2391 Jason and Annabella announced their plans to get married and both decided to move to Starbase 451 to take a research position and build a family. They moved to their new assignment in 2392, and were married by fall of 2392.
And for a while life was idyllic. Jason and Annabella were working together, enjoying StarBase life and the honeymoon period of their relationship. But when hardships hit the marriage turned rocky.
Annabella had a miscarriage in 2394, which Jason blamed on exposure to cyprionic radiation. In 2395 Jason’s older brother Christopher was killed while working with a hazard team that was investigating the mysterious disappearance of a Starfleet research ship. Jason fell into depression that he couldn’t manage and started to take his anger out on Annabella.
In 2396 they moved into separate quarters and after a fight Jason impetuously requested a transfer away from Starbase 451. That was the last straw for Annabella who requested a divorce. They separated in 2396 and the divorce was official in 2397.
Wounded and confused, Jason was assigned to the USS Calistoga and the ship became his second family. He’s been on the Calistoga for six years now and considers multiple members of the crew the replacements for the family he lost.
