Summary
Ensign Ophelia Lotharys is presently assigned as the executive officer and chief sciences officer aboard USS Culver City.
Appearance
Stands around 5’08”, red hair, green eyes.
Personality
Ensign Lotharys is inquisitive. She enjoys digging into a good mystery, whether that be on the bridge or in a holonovel. She is cautious in command at present, simply a factor of inexperience, but will probably make a good commanding officer in the future.
History
Ophelia Lotharys was born on Trill, her parents’ only child. From her childhood, she showed an aptitude for the sciences, particularly biology; some of this could be attributed to the training and assessments every young Trill receives to determine if they are suitable to become host to a symbiont, but if truth be told she had been fascinated by biology before beginning her assessments.
While Ophelia was not considered a compatible host for a symbiont, she continued her studies of biology, particularly xenobiology, leading her to enroll in Starfleet Academy. She was to have been a member of the Class of 2399, but a sudden and persistent illness that took some months to treat delayed the beginning of her coursework by a semester. In one of her early classes, she met and became friends with a young Orion named Varyn K’lev, an engineering cadet one semester ahead; that friendship endures to this day.
Ophelia completed her coursework in the Terran winter of 2399, but because of her delayed start she did not actually graduate until 2400. She had gone back home to Trill to visit family during Frontier Day 2401, though the crisis ended before she came at risk of doing harm to her family; they had gone out for the day, but she had stayed behind.
After Frontier Day, she received her assignment for her midshipman cruise; USS Culver City, a California– class starship. Aboard, she found herself reunited with her old classmate Varyn K’lev, now an ensign on his first posting. During the Palix Bravo mission, she was in sensor control when the Vaadwaur attacked the colony. A disruptor hit blew out a plasma conduit in the compartment, leaving her – wounded and concussed – as the sole survivor; when she realized the ship was still under control, she made her way to engineering, assisting then-acting captain K’lev in saving the ship by serving as his “eyes” on the ship’s navigational sensors. After Culver City’s arrival at Starbase 86, she was temporarily transferred to Starbase Bravo, before being reassigned to the ship alongside her classmate.
