Summary

Slyvexs is a Starfleet Officer and the current Chief Medical Officer of the USS Odyssey. Like McCallister, she is a veteran of the Dominion War and served under him on the USS Trinity and USS Triton. She has several degrees related to medicine. Her dry wit and sarcastic nature is well loved by many on the crew, as a result she is able to make many of her patients feel at ease with her humour. Even though she has been a doctor for some time now, she has no plans on retiring (yet) as she thoroughly enjoys being on the Odyssey.

Appearance

Her long, wavy golden blonde hair almost hides Slyvexs’ typical Denobulan face ridges. Her forehead ridges are not as prominent as those of other Denobulan women, partly due to her daily beauty regime of using hipecat cream to maintain her almost youthful appearance. A very slender woman, her lake blue eyes can calm down any patient, as can her wide smile, but her delicate hands have seen a lot of action under the surgical light, gaining her the reputation for being known on the ship as having the most steady hands.

  • Height: 5′ 5″ (1.66 m)
  • Weight: 112 lbs
  • Hair: Blonde
  • Eyes: Blue

Personality

A talented doctor, Slyvexs is exceptionally knowledgeable in almost every area of medicine. Her years of service, professional development, and research in various fields of study have enabled her with a wide range of skills. As a result, she understands how to deal with almost every medical challenge. She is passionate about her patients and their care, so she only expects the best from her staff when treating anyone who comes through the doors of sickbay. That all said, her colleagues thoroughly enjoy her wit and dry sense of humour. Her sarcasm has cut down anyone who challenges her medical professionalism. That said, she puts those she cares for before herself.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Slyvexs is an exceptional doctor who is passionate about her work. Her love for medicine was undoubtedly sparked by her innate curiosity as a child, which her parents nurtured. She is diligent and hardworking, and her patients always feel at ease in her care. She is a compassionate soul who takes the time to listen to her patient’s concerns and make them feel heard. She is always willing to go the extra mile to ensure her patients receive the best possible care.

In addition to her work, Slyvexs is a sociable individual who enjoys spending time with her colleagues and crew members. She often shares meals or drinks with them, and her friendly and approachable nature makes her a favourite among her peers.

Slyvexs is also a devoted family woman who values spending quality time with her loved ones. She is particularly fond of spending time with her third husband, Mettex, and they enjoy engaging in various activities together. In her free time, Slyvexs can be found reading books, going for walks, or exploring new places. Her love for adventure and exploration is evident not only in her personal life but also in her professional life, where she always seeks to learn and grow as a doctor.

Ambitions

Though she loves her career in Starfleet and has shown a willingness to be more than just a doctor through her command training, Slyvexs does not wish to rush through the ranks. She has no desire for her own command. She has turned down numerous attempts for her to take command of hospital ships. Taking her time and enjoying every experience her way has always been her approach. However, she does have plans to retire to Denobula eventually.

Biography

Early Life

Born on the Denobula homeworld in 2312, Slyvexs, like all Denobulans, came from a big family. She enjoyed the many brothers, sisters and cousins she had around her growing up. Fascinated with science from an early age, Sylvexs initially studied biology before attending university and gaining her medical doctorate. Throughout her career, she has achieved many medical-related degrees. By age thirty, she was married and had three husbands and seven children. A decade later, she decided to return to her work after being at home caring for her children and a few she fostered.

Opening her private medical practice with former colleagues, Slyvexs remained on Denobula until the late 2360s. She finally realised that she needed to do more, and after travelling to Earth, Vulcan and Andoria with her children for her fiftieth birthday, she chose to apply to Starfleet.

Starfleet Career

Early Career

Not needing to undertake the ordinary four-year course due to her numerous qualifications, Slyvexs was at the academy for half the time it took other cadets. Eventually, she graduated and was given a position on Starbase 375 as one of its doctors, where she could also undertake research.

Starbase 375

Being on the starbase was an eye-opener for the Denobulan doctor. She met various people and thoroughly enjoyed getting to know different cultures. In 2369, she was part of a relief effort to Bajor shortly after the Cardassian withdrawal. There, Slyvexs operated a field hospital to assist the Bajorans. As part of her orders, she remained on Bajor for the rest of the year, helping to support the Bajorans in setting up a sustainable healthcare service, especially in rural areas. By the middle of 2370, she returned to Starbase 375.

USS Venture (NCC-71854)

In 2373, before the start of the Dominion War, the USS Venture, a Galaxy-class ship, required an Assistant Chief Medical Officer. Slyvexs, who was looking to try something new, jumped at the opportunity and applied for the position. After a competitive selection process, she was thrilled to have been chosen to join the Venture’s medical team. As the war intensified, Slyvexs remained committed to her work on the Venture, providing critical care to injured crew members and civilians. Despite receiving multiple offers to transfer to other ships, she chose to remain with the Venture for the duration of the war, a testament to her loyalty and dedication to her fellow crew members.

Following the war, Slyvexs continued to receive offers to stay on the Venture but ultimately decided to pursue new opportunities elsewhere. However, her tenure on the Venture remained a significant and meaningful chapter in her career. At the war’s end, she decided to take a break from it all and resigned her commission from Starfleet but stayed on the reserve list. She returned home and would spend the next decade enjoying family life again.

USS Trinity (NCC-80421)

In 2384, Slyvexs returned to Starfleet and was appointed the assistant chief medical officer on board the USS Trinity, an Obena-class starship. This was a significant achievement for her; she hadn’t expected to serve on a starship so quickly.

During her tenure on the USS Trinity, Slyvexs was involved in many exploration missions in the Beta Quadrant, where she proved her worth as a valuable member of the crew. However, one particular mission would test her abilities beyond her wildest imagination. While returning home, the Trinity encountered a severe malfunction, which caused the ship to crash onto an icy planet. The crew was stranded, with limited resources and no means of communication with the outside world. It was a dire situation, and the crew had to work together to survive. Slyvexs’ medical expertise and quick thinking proved to be a critical factor in the crew’s survival. With her knowledge, she was able to provide medical care and keep the crew morale high. She also helped them find shelter, food, and water, all while trying to find a way to call for help.

Captain McCallister, the commanding officer of the USS Trinity, was impressed with Slyvexs’ remarkable performance under such stressful conditions. He saw her as a natural leader who kept the crew together and ensured their survival. Despite the tragic fate of the USS Trinity, Slyvexs’ courage and determination in the face of adversity earned her the respect and admiration of her fellow crew members and the commanding officer.

USS Triton (NCC-80106)

After much contemplation, Slyvexs was uncertain whether or not her decision to return to Starfleet was the right choice. Despite this, she was offered a position as Chief Medical Officer on the USS Triton, which was a significant promotion. However, she opted not to accept the role and instead chose to be the Assistant Chief Medical Officer, as she was more interested in continuing her research. She believed that this position would allow her to make a valuable contribution to the team while also pursuing her passion for medical research.

Captain McCallister, who was assigned to command the Triton, was disappointed with her decision, as he hoped she would accept the senior position. Nonetheless, he was pleased to have her back on board and recognised her value to the crew. Slyvexs was excited to be working alongside her former captain once more and looked forward to the new challenges that awaited her.

Towards the end of 2386, Slyvexs found herself in a life-and-death situation once again as the ship attempted to rescue a Federation colony. The Triton was engaging in a fierce battle with several enemy ships, and it got hit badly, resulting in many of the crew sustaining injuries or losing their lives. As a medical officer, Slyvexs was stationed in sickbay, dealing with multiple trauma patients. In the midst of the chaos, she received the critically injured Counsellor Daubin Jen. Slyvexs, being a skilled and experienced doctor, immediately started working on Daubin, doing everything within her power to save the Trill’s life. Despite her best efforts, Slyvexs couldn’t save Daubin, and it was a heart-wrenching moment for her. The two of them had become close colleagues since she had joined the Triton. However, she managed to save the Jen symbiont, which was still alive despite Daubin’s passing. Slyvexs conducted further surgery to implant the symbiont in the only other Trill on board, Ensign Lukiz Smyth. Being an expert in Trill physiology, Slyvexs ensured that the symbiont was safe and secure during the surgery. After a successful surgery, Lukiz became the new host of the Jen symbiont, giving it a new lease of life. Through her efforts, Slyvexs had managed to save a life, even though it wasn’t the one she had hoped to save. She would go on to support Lukiz as he transitioned to his unexpected role as the new host for the Jen symbiont.

Eventually, the whole Triton crew were reassigned when Starfleet took the ship in for repairs. At the start of 2387, Slyvexs finally gave in to Captain McCallister’s request to become a Chief Medical Officer on his new ship, the Odyssey.

USS Odyssey (NX/NCC-80000)

Serving as the chief medical officer on the Odyssey was a pivotal experience for the Denobulan doctor. She quickly discovered that running her department on the starship was similar to managing her former medical practice but with several unique challenges. The doctor’s role involved overseeing a much larger team of medical professionals responsible for the entire crew’s health and well-being and providing emergency medical care in the event of an attack or other crisis.

Despite the immense pressure of her position, the doctor remained a confident and capable officer who could easily navigate the complexities of her role. As a lieutenant commander, she had the experience and expertise to make difficult decisions and effectively manage her team. Additionally, her Denobulan background gave her a unique perspective on the various alien species the crew encountered on their voyages, which proved invaluable in medical and diplomatic situations.

Throughout her time on the Odyssey, the doctor gained a wealth of experience that would serve her well in her future endeavours. She learned to adapt quickly to new challenges and developed strong leadership skills that would allow her to excel in any role she took on. Ultimately, her first few years as chief medical officer on the Odyssey was a defining moment in her career that would shape her path for years to come.

Slyvexs’s third husband, Mettex, joined her on Odyssey as a civilian specialist in astrology. The two shared joint quarters, and she felt like she was home for the first time in a long time. On numerous occasions, her other husbands visited, as did their children, and in 2392, she became a grandmother for the first time.

In search of new horizons and challenges, Captain McCallister gave the green light to Slyvexs’ application to take the advanced bridge officer exam. Slyvexs proved to be an adept learner and completed the training without breaking a sweat. However, she didn’t rest on her laurels and continued to pursue other courses and tests to expand her skill set beyond the confines of her medical expertise. Her hard work paid off in 2396 when she was promoted to commander and entrusted with commanding the gamma shift twice a week, a testament to her dedication and competency as a Starfleet officer.

Over the years, Slyvexs proved herself to be a loyal officer under Captain McCallister; this was seen when the crew were kidnapped onto an alien vessel at the end of 2399. The ship had been exploring the Delta Quadrant when they encountered what appeared to be an alien ark drifting in space. After exploring the vessel, the crew discovered that its crew’s children were placed into stasis in an attempt to save their civilisation. When the ship’s AI came to life, it took control of the mighty vessel and kidnapped almost every adult on the Odyssey in a bold attempt to have them care for the children. Over a period of two months, it was down to Slyvexs to maintain the health of not just her crewmates but the children and young people they now cared for. Shocked she had not been given any children to raise herself with her husband Mettex, Slyvexs soon realised that if she had been placed in that situation (like so many of her shipmates had), then she may have quickly discovered the deception being carried out by the ship’s AI system. It used its advanced holographic and particle synthesisers to project fake life signs for almost every child and young person except for two. Slyvexs had blamed herself for being so blind in not seeing this sooner. After returning to the Odyssey, she was assessed to determine the impact of her imprisonment. Like everyone else, she would undergo a lot of therapy to understand what had happened to them.

Slyvexs was instrumental in leading the Odyssey‘s efforts to help those injured by the Century Storm in the Paulson Nebula. During the middle of this mission, the ship was shattered through a temporal anomaly, and the crew found themselves in different eras of the ship’s past and possibly an alternate future. Though the Temporal Prime Directive swore her not to discuss her experience, a past version of Slyvexs assisted her crewmates in restoring the ship to its original state. As a result, she retained her memories from the past about what happened. Sadly, though, at the time, Captain McCallister’s wife, Karyn Reyas, was believed to have died while saving the ship. As a close friend, Slyvexs was a strong advocate for convincing the captain to allow her and other members of the staff to help and support him and his sons in dealing with their grief.

While the ship had returned to the Beta Quadrant, it supported a Romulan colony it once visited: Vorash in the Velorum Sector. Doctor Slyvexs, like the captain, was well-known by its inhabitants as the great healer who had helped the colonists when they had been refugees after the collapse of the Romulan Star Empire. When the captain met with the leader of the Qowat Milat group, Slyvexs joined him and were instrumental in re-opening a dialogue with the secret nun society. She convinced their leader to provide Starfleet protection as they went from door to door to provide further medical assistance to those from the population hiding in their residence. As a result, Slyvexs successfully led the crew’s efforts in providing medical aid to the inhabitants. Initially, she and a large team from the Odyssey’s sickbay provided medical treatment to those on Vorash who had been injured during a recent earthquake. After assessing the condition of the hospital, which she had been involved in developing when the settlement was established, Slyvexs devised a plan with her deputy to improve the medical facilities through the use of old holographic technology.

By mid-2400, the ship had returned to its original mission of exploring the Gradin Belt in the Delta Quadrant. The crew were forced to fight Hazari Bounty Hunters, who were after the adopted sons of Commander Duncan and Chief Court. Being of alien origin, the crew had rescued the two boys from the alien ark several months previously. The Hazari had been hunting down their species to almost extinction for hundreds of years. In a bold and incredible bluff to convince the Hazari, Doctor Slyvexs developed a treatment that made both boys appear they were Human and the descendants of both Duncan and Count on the molecular level. Though the bluff worked and sent the Hazari away, Doctor Slyvexs was able to return both boys back to their previous DNA, but they asked to remain Human.

Months later, Slyvexs continued to be a consistent member of the senior staff who assisted the captain in diplomatic exchanges with species they visited while in the Gradin Belt. During one event, Slyvexs had to step in to prevent her husband from insulting the Kadi leader. While visiting a trading colony, a group of Benkaran muggers attempted to steal from Slyvexs. Instead she was able to successfully defend herself and report the incident to the authorities. Being able to stop her assailants resulted in her being able to be the first witness in months who came forward about this notorious gang. For this effort, she was praised by the local law enforcement.

During the Blood Dilithium phenomena, which saw the telepathic crewmembers affected by unusual psionic signals from subspace, Slyvexs was able to support her fellow crewmates in enhancing cortical inhibitors to stop them from being affected. However, this did not last long. In an uncharacteristic way, many of those on the crew who were telepaths were affected by a nearby baby Telepathic Pitcher Plant (which was also affected by the Blood Dilithium phenomena) and carried out a mutiny against the captain. Slyvexs, along with a few others, were able to eventually retake control of the ship. However, they then had to deal with the baby Telepathic Pitcher Plant. With the others not affected by the Blood Dilithium, Slyvexs worked on a plan to end what was happening. Thanks to her Denobulan physiology, she was able to withstand the effects of the neurogenic field created by the baby Telepathic Pitcher Plant. Slyvexs was left in command right until the final moment when she eventually succumbed to the neurogenic field. Before this happened, she was able to transfer command of the Odyssey to its emergency holographic crew. After their bold plan worked, Slyvexs was one of the first who was able to recover from the effects of the field.

Shortly after the formation of the new Odyssey Squadron, the ship dealt with the remains of a Borg debris field. Slyvexs led the Odyssey‘s work on liberating a number of former Borg drones from their dependency on their cybernetic implants. Such a mass recovery operation was no easy ride for the doctor; however, under her leadership, the many medical experts helping the drones were successful in restoring them to their former selves.

When the entire squadron returned to the Alpha Quadrant, ahead of the Frontier Day celebrations planned for early 2401, Slyvexs was instrumental in determining what happened to a Federation colony after the Dominion’s Lost Fleet of 2375 reappeared in the Deneb Sector and invaded it. When the Divinum System was attacked, and all of its inhabitants were lost, Slyvexs was able to determine that the Dominion had used a modified metagenic weapon in a bold bid to remove the Federation colonists. She also discovered that the Dominion had developed an antidote to the biological weapon. With help, she was able to replicate it and find some sort of protection if it would ever be needed again.

Prior to the start of the Frontier Day celebrations, Slyvexs was promoted to Captain of Medicine on the Odyssey. Though she was not happy with the promotion (she was content as a commander), she understood why Fleet Captain McCallister had promoted her. Starfleet wanted the Odyssey fully crewed and ready to return to the Delta Quadrant after the festivities. This meant expanding all departments with more people. Though she knew it would keep her away from most of her day-to-day work as a doctor, Slyvexs took the attitude that the new rank meant she had the chance to train others with her own experience of being a frontier doctor. This thrilled her. However, the Frontier Day celebrations were spoilt by the joint Borg-Changeling effort to take over Starfleet. Like so many other doctors, Slyvexs was baffled by the apparent ability of the Borg being able to assimilate the younger crewmembers. Along with those who survived on the bridge of the Odyssey, Slyvexs defended herself and others as long as they could.

Once the recovery from Frontier Day had started, Slyvexs remained on the Odyssey as the ship prepared to return to the Delta Quadrant.
