Personality
Cole can be fun and outgoing but when the time calls for it, he’s all work and action. He can be sweet and enduring but if he will also fight, both passionately and physically, for something or someone he believes in. He feels that everyone deserves a chance and that said chance is very important and shouldn’t be wasted. Though he doesn’t see it himself, he has been told on several occasions that he very short tempered so he works hard at not losing it when he does notice.
History
Character Bio:
Early life:
Colton, aka Cole, was born on Earth in the year 2366 to Conner and Chloe Shepard. He is of Irish and German descent. He is also the youngest of seven children. His father was a Security Officer in Starfleet stationed aboard the USS Lionheart and was away for extended periods of time. Their parents had decided that the children would be raised on Earth by their mother. Their mother worked as a teacher for a school that catered to the children of Starfleet officers. To pass the time, Cole began learning self-defense at an early age. He is trained in boxing, Taekwondo and Jujutsu.
When two of Cole’s brothers were old enough, they took a job flying small transport shuttles around Earth and Cole would ride along with them. From that point on, he would get his feet off the ground any chance he had.
Cole also had another brother and one of his sisters follow in their father’s footsteps and join Starfleet. Between the tales that they told and the stories he remembered from his father’s visits; it didn’t take long for Cole to decide that he too wanted to join those adventures himself. Much to their mother’s relief, his siblings immediately got stationed on Earth, but Cole informed her that his intention was to be stationed on a starship.
He failed his first entrance exam in 2384 when he was eighteen years old and found himself very discouraged, but his mother knew how much it meant to him and she became his biggest supporter and they studied together every night.
With the support of an old friend of his father’s, he was able to take the exam once again, but he had had to wait thirteen years due to assisting with his mother’s illness, so in 2397, at the age of thirty-one, he reapplied and this time, he passed and was accepted.
Starfleet Academy:
Despite being one of the oldest cadets in his class, or perhaps because of, he completed his training on time and with honors and graduated in the top ten with his major in Social Sciences and a minor in Engineering. In the year 2401, at the age of twenty-five, Cole kissed his mother goodbye and was shipped off for Starbase Bravo.
