The ports of Hecate Station were buzzing with activity as merchants were talking to docking officers, loadmasters giving out orders to get their cargo in the right locations. People were getting checked for boarding their respective trip to the locations that were available. Many worlds were still not ready to open to receive people, due to the state of what the Vaadwaur had left them in. But that was none of the concerns for Convoy Heartline, they were preparing to load their cargo to get ready for traveling to Klingon space.
“I am telling you, the documentation you are providing are not proper, they are missing information and I can’t simply check this off” A irritated voice was heard as a trade liaison stood across of Thenira “Get the documentation sorted, and I can deal with the rest”
Scratching the back of her head, while her other hand held the PADD and reading the information, “The improper document is the one crate to Boreth?” Thenira was not particular in the mood to deal with this, she looked at her side, seeing the mention crate and started to wonder if this was done on purpose. Looking back at the information and then back at the crate, “But you can clearly see that the crate number is the same as this document”.
The man was about to fume where he stood, “That technicality is important for our registration, we require every cargo ship to get their administration in order to make sure nothing is going wrong. So…”
“What seems the problem good man” Sarah creeps behind the angry man, and places her hands on his shoulder giving him a soft smile. “I hope nothing too severe that could endanger the contract to Klingon space? If there is something wrong, I am sure we can get this arranged” Sarah rubs his shoulders “Swiftly”.
The man calms down and pinch his nose, “The documentation of the cargo needs to be in check, or Operations will be giving a fuss about it. Not to mention the board members of the trade association.”
Sarah eyes Thenira giving a slight roll of her eyes at the mention of the association. Sarah lets go of his shoulders and go to his front “But was it not Operations that categorized, numbered and received the cargo in the first place my good man? If there is something wrong with the documentation, then the fault should be with Operations, not with the one that is receiving it.”
There was logic in that understanding, to a degree. The man showed a bit puzzled, thinking of what Sarah just told him.
“So I sign these papers, you can deal with Operations faulty data. I am sure we don’t want to answer to the Captain of this station why we are so behind on our loading schedule, now do we?” Sarah saw the man nod slowly, as she grabs the PADD and sign it giving it back to the man “Now Vek, get it loaded” Sarah orders seeing Vek move without questions asked. “Thank you for your time and hard work” With that she moved away from the swoosh of his feet man. Still standing there confused and walking back slowly into Hecate Station, not quite sure what happened.
Cargo hold – 15
Tapping her foot on the deck, Thenira looked at the data on the Boreth cargo, and she finds the internal logs to be off. “They are not classified as Federation normal cargo, but flagged as special support of type II. That would explain the faulty information at check-in” Thenira mutters to herself. “Klingons will have a blast with more delays…”
“These clamps are a joke” A voice came from an Orion woman, “I bet Starfleet only knows how to transport pillows” Kixu laughs as she was doing some maintenance on the gravity clamps. “Yo Vek, why are you so muttering in yourself, is Cap giving you a headache again?” She looked at her side to Vek.
A sigh came from Thenira “Nothing to worry about, I guess… I wouldn’t be surprise that Cap would have something to do with this specific cargo” She waved the PADD up and down as Thenira looked at the cargo “The unusual origin markings on this, is ticking me off” Lowering the PADD and looking back at Kixu “So, better get those clamps fixed before we leave”.
Nodding as Kixu looked back at the clamps and continue repairing it, “Well, it wouldn’t be the first time that Cap held onto a secondary contract without telling us. She just has a soft spot for Starfleet”.
Thenira hums a bit to herself not responding to that banter, when she finally spoke up “Just get the job done Kixu” With that she left the cargo hold, to check on the other cargo that they were going to bring along into the Klingon space.
A short while later, Sarah leans against the door entrance, “How are you holding up, dear?”
Kixu looked up seeing her boss standing there “What’s up Cap, the clamps are fixed, just need to check some calibrations and It’s good to go”
Giving a soft smile at Kixu “So there are no further problems regarding the remaining cargo?” Sarah saw Kixu standing up, and her eyes followed the Orion woman that was truly showing her deckhand clothing, being in oil smeared over it, tool belts, she honestly liked this look.
“Well, aside from the crates smelling like Gagh, they are mostly good to go. Aivri is doing the security checks and I am not going to get in her way when she does that. Cap” Kixu smiled broadly at Sarah, knowing how Aivri is very specific and perfectionist to any of the security measures of the cargo they transport.
“That is quite true” Sarah deflected that joke with a smirk “Well finish up here and keep Thenira updated on any other repairs” Sarah pushed herself off and turns around as she halts at looked at Kixu “Did you get a chance to check the lower decks environmental systems? It’s rather cold there”.
Kixu taps her chin for a second, “Juno did mention it, I will get to it when I am done with the cargo checks”
“Good gal” With that Sarah left the cargo hold to resume her own inspection.
Captain’s Quarters
After the inspection round, cargo was still being attached to the Duchess Veritas. Sarah enters her lowly lit room, it had fur blankets on the couch, a lovely wide window that showed Hecate Station. A messy desk that had PADDs of manifest, old contracts, cargo details and also the Golden Contract that the Federation offered for this convoy with the updated clause.
Sarah walks to the rack that had various liquors in it. She grabs a bottle and looks at it reading Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum “Ah a classic” She said with some satisfaction and grabs a glass and pours a bit of the rum in it. Placing the bottle on her desk as she sat down with the glass in her hand.
Swiping on her private console to the right, seeing a private and encrypted channel that sends a message. She opens it and leans in her chair. She takes a sip of her drink as she reads the words “Off the book’s observation of Klingon morale, faction movement, and cultural cohesion in the aftermath of Vaadwaur.” She smirks slightly, seeing the reward of resources credits and trade contracts. Letting the liquor burning sensation go down her throat as she lowers her glass, “My oh my….Starfleet is quite resourceful if they provide this much for such easy task”.
Closing the channel as it deletes, seeing as there was a timer on it. The contract is sealed and now Sarah is there with a double agenda in this Golden Contract. She looked at Hecate Station and raises her glass, “Cheers, up to another fruitful endeavor”.
