Location: Overwatch Station, Science Lab One
Katie just made it back to her office, she had just left the meeting with Commodore Coleman. She was about ready to go into the science lab but he sure she wanted to check her messages to see if Chief Carson had responded yet.
To her surprise he hadn’t, and that was a little concerning to her. But she didn’t realize she was just being a little worry wart.
Katie was about to walk into science lab one, when she finally got the call. Keith was on th other end. She opened the channel. “Chief, how goes the mission?” Katie asked, they were a couple of days into the mission.
“Going pretty well Ma’am. Crewman Morris discovered some microorganisms. We’re taking precautionary steps to secure the samples.”
I can’t wait to read Rena’s report.” Katie said with a big smile on her face.
“The data were collecting will keep us busy for months.” Chief Carson suggested to her.
“I am surprised you found life on this moon.” Katie said, feeling excited for Rena’s discovery. The previous expedition also found life, but this was the first for her team.
“We’re hoping to find a aquatic life for me, the Moon is 99% water, so the odds should be in their favor.” Chief Carson said, hoping that they were able to discover one this week.
“You got your doing awesome, I know you’re going to give me your best shot.” Katie said with a big smile on her face.
“We’re going to try Ma’am.” Chief Carson said, hoping he could he could achieve that request.
“Keep me updated, I know you have a lot of work to do. So I’ll let you get to it.” Katie said as the channel ended.
Location: Overwatch Station, Security Office
Sotti walked into her office, she reviewed the duty logs, which did not take very long. The crew was were behaving themselves. No write ups and no incident report.
After reviewing the reports, she looked over at the window in her office. She could see nothing but her reflection. Her image reflected on the window. Behind it, was a big vast darkness of space. Her office was on the opposite side of the moon.
She stood there for a moment. Thinking about the previous mission. She was surprised her former Captain put her through an ordeal.
She appreciated the sentiment from him. She smiled as she thought about it.
Location: USS Oceanus Procellarum, Aft Cabin
Sarah Yonders was in the Runabout going over some scans. She was reviewing the microorganisms discovered by Crewman Morris.
Alot of the data coming in, and a lot of it needed to be processed. But they didn’t have their proper scientist needed in order to verify the results.
The stations computer where a lot faster than the runabouts. Right now Sarah was trying to sub categorize the data. To make it easier when they got back to the station.
Monica McFarland Walked over to Sarah. “I can help you, i don’t have anything to do, and I’m bored.”
“I don’t want to force you, but if you’re willing to help, I can sure use the help, the computer terminal there is available.” Sarah said with a big smile on her face.
Monica smiled when she said. “I would love too. There is really not much to do in the back, kinda lonely back there.” Monica suggested to her.
“I know what you mean, and I really do appreciate you helping me.” Sarah said, as they continued on working.
Location: Overwatch Station, Command Operations Center
Elsie was on the command deck, as she got word that the USS Oakland and the USS Paso Robles were both at Starbase Bravo, and that the Oakland was ready to travel back to Overwatch Station.
Sotti walked up onto the command operations center, she noticed that the Elsie was at the operations table. She was observing local traffic in the area. Two Runabouts were on the display roster. And a third one was preparing to get underway.
“Another runabout, Maa’am?” Sotti asked, being a little nosy.
“The Mare Insularum, she is preparing for a patrol. I want to see what’s beyond the range of our sensors. According to long range probes, there is nothing out there. But I want to make sure.” Elsie explained to Sotti.
“Tactically that makes sense, are they going to patrol now or after the other two runabouts return?” Sotti said, hoping they were not spreading themselves too thin, with runabouts that could potentially defend the station.
“I need to make sure the Talvath Area is clear of danger, I am going to send the Paso Robles and the USS Oakland to the area. I am hoping that coming from two angles to the system will force out any romulan tal shair that might be hiding in the area.” Elsie suggested it to Sotti.
“It’s risky, a runabout can not go head on with a warbird.” Sotti suggested it to Elsie. Her plan was bold, and potentially dangerous.
“Sometimes you have to risk it all.” Elsie pointed out to Sotti. She wanted her to know that this was important to her. They needed to know if the Tal Shair were hiding in the area. They needed to weed them out, if they were.
“I believe I understand Ma’am.” Sotti said to her, a little surprised by the news. She knew this could be a possibility. But she did not expect it to be reality. To potentially order a team to their death.
“I hope so. Some day when you’re the Captain, you may have to make a similar decision.” Elsie advised her, she needed her to understand that a commanding officer, sometimes have to make the tough calls, and risking the lives of the crew, for the safety of the Federation.
Sotti just stared in her general direction, not happy about the call. But she was able to come to grasp with the call. It was a tough call, she was glad Elsie was making it, and not her.
Location: Overwatch Station, Mess Hall
Sotti walked into the Mess Hall, she was happy to see that Katie Woodward was also in the room. She did not want to eat alone. She walked over to her. “May I join you, Lieutenant.” Sotti asked Katie, with a warm smile on her face. She wanted a friendly face around her. She had spent the past hour thinking about the orders of Elsie, and how she could come to terms with them.
“Ofcourse, but please call me Katie.” She said, with a warm smile on her face as well. Katie was also coming to terms with putting her own crew in potential danger and putting in missions that she was not able to attend herself. That was a realization for her as well.
“Please call me Sotti, and I would be honored to call you Katie. Tell me Katie, have you checked in with your team recently?” Sotti asked, hoping to bring up small talk. She was hoping that Katie could give her some inspiration about how to order others to potential harm.
“I spoke with Chief Carson a couple of hours ago, they discovered some micro-organisms. For a scientist, that is a great thing, to discover life. I wish I was there with them, if we are being honest.” Katie said, trying to be open and honest.
“That is pretty cool, they find life.” Sotti said, with a smile on her face. “I am happy if my team doesn’t find trouble, a quiet day in Security, is a good day for me. Less paperwork to do.” Sotti said with a teasing grin.
Mika walked over to the two ladies already engaged in conversation. “What you two discussing?” Mika asked, feeling a little left out, and still lost on what her purpose out here was from a religious perspective. She was greatful that she made friends with the senior staff already.
“My team discovered new life on the moon, a micro-organism.” Katie said, with a big cheesy grin on her face. She as happy of her team, despite the fact she was cooped up on the station.
“That is very cool, hey can I join you both?” Mika asked, with her tray of food in her hands. She was hoping they would say yes.
“Please do, I think we would both love the company.” Katie suggested on behalf of herself, and on behalf of Sotti. And Katie was right, Sotti had no issues with Mika joining them. In her eyes, the more the merrier.
“I bet you must be really proud.” Mika suggested to Katie, with a big warm smile on her face. She was proud of Katie and her team. That was a great discovery. New life, on a moon already previously explored, was a big deal.
“I am extremely proud of them. I can not wait to get the data results back, so we can start processing the data.” Katie said, as she looked to Mika.
“They come back tomorrow right?” Sotti asked, her reasoning for asking was more about tactical positioning. Three runabouts were away from the station. She would prefer only one be gone at any given time. She knew it was not her call to make, but she would prefer it, nonetheless.
“Two days, but it seems like an eternity.” Katie said mostly teasing, but having a real sense of annoyance to her tone. She was eager to get the information.
“It will go by, before you know it, Katie.” Sotti said, trying to cheer her up a little bit. It was true, she was trying to cheer her up.
“I know you are right, but for someone one like me, that is use to going on the front lines. This harder than I imagined it would be, to get use too. But I know I will. Maybe someday, I would make a good Captain.” Katie pointed out to the other two.
“I know you will make a good Captain.” Sotti said in support of her friend. She was about to continue on, when she saw that Mika wanted to say something.
“I totally agree, Captain Woodward, of the USS Enterprise.” Mika suggested to her, with a warm smile on her face.
“Come on, be real. The Enterprise, we both know, that will never happen. Nor would I want it too, that ship has a lot of legacy, I want a science ship.” Katie said, with a tone of sincerity in her voice.
“Really? Why a science vessel?” Mika asked, with a confused look on her face. She would have assumed she would want an exploration vessel.
Sotti was a little surprised that Mika did not understand why. “She is a scientist.” She pointed out to Mika, to get her to see why Katie would want a science vessel for a command position.
“Why not an explorer?” Mika finally asked, she wanted to command an explorer someday. But first she needed to work her way up the ranks.
“To be big, and to much of a target.” Katie suggested. “Let’s not forget, the Voyager was a science vessel, and made a lot of discoveries and also did exploration. So anything is possible.” Katie pointed out to Mika and to Sotti.
“I dont want an explorer either, I want a small escort vessel, maybe a Sabre class.” Sotti said, feeling like she needed to tell them, what type of command she wanted to have.
“The pizza cutter ship?” Mika asked a little puzzled, why would she want that dinky little ship. She was capable of so much more.
“Thats’ the Glenn Class!” Katie said, teasing poor Mika. She had mixed up the two ships. Katie just grinned, as she teased her accordingly.
“Can’t be, is it?” Wondering if she got it wrong. They remembered they both sort of looked like a pizza cutter, granted the Glenn Class was apparent pizza cutter.
Sotti just grinned, and so did Katie. “Haha, just live it up you too. But I meant it, they both look like pizza cutters.” Mika said, holding her ground with the information.
“It’s your future command and call, so if you want the USS Pizza Cutter, thats fine with me.” Katie said with a smirk.
Sotti just chuckled. “Be a nice science lady who wants a science ship.” Sotti counter rebuttled her. With a serious look on her face.
“I’m always nice.” Katie said, with a big grin. She could not believe that Sotti would even think she was not a nice person.
Mika laughed as she waived her head to say yes, that Katie was always a nice person. She had nothing bad to say about Katie or Sotti.
“I can’t help the fact that it looks like a pizza cutter.” Katie said trying not to laugh but it was a truth it looked like a pizza cutter.
“You’re not going to let that go are you?” Mika asked with the slightly twisted grin on her face.
“I’m not sure yet, but I’ll try.” Katie said, with a teasing grin on her face, she would try but it was too easy of an opportunity to pass up on.
Sotti couldn’t help but laugh, because what she said wasn’t technically wrong. And it was kind of humorous. “Maybe when I’m captain I’ll make every Friday pizza night.” Sotti suggested to the two ladies.
“Well I know where I’ll be showing up Friday nights, when I get my own command.” Katie said in a teasing voice.
“Hey don’t exclude me, if you guys are going to have pizza on Fridays, you might as well include me.” Mika said feeling a little left out.
“We would never dream of excluding you.” Katie suggested to Mika. The three of them are starting to become like The Three amigos, she really enjoyed their company.
Location: Overwatch Station, Sickbay
Quincy and Zechariah were both in sick bay, they were going over medical review files. They were confirming that they were completely done with new orientation. “I’m not missing anybody on my list, what about you?” Quincy asked as he looked over to Zechariah.
Jeremiah just looked back at him, with a big grin on his face and said. “I met with everybody but one person, and I think you know who that person is.” Zechariah suggested as he’s referring to Quincy.
“Well I figured we could do our reconcile report at the same time as you meet with me. What can I say doc I’m doing good, I’m not allowing the incidents of Frontier Day, bother me. It is a dark time in my life and I am coping with it in the holiday like probably most people are.” Quincy said in his defense.
“Well if you ever feel like you do need to talk, my office is open. I am happy to hear that you found a constructive way to resolve any feelings that you might be having. The holodeck is a good tool for that perspective.” Zechariah said with the humbling smile on his face.
Quincy smile and nodded as he looked over to him. “I appreciate that Doc, I really do and if we come to that I will definitely let you know. But right now I have things under control, and we have a lot of crew that need our services more than we do right now.” Quincy pointed out too him.
“You’re right, but I don’t want you to forget that old saying you can’t help others if you don’t help yourself.” Zachariah pointed out to Quincy.
“I know and I promise you if things get worse for me I’ll let you know.” Quincy responded, he appreciated what the counselor was trying to do and he understood that he was just doing his job but he had had things under control.
“All right now that they unpleasantries are over with, I was hoping to get some lunch do you want to go with me. I hate eating alone.” Zachariah said with the big gun on his face, but he wasn’t lying. He hated eating alone.
“Sure, I’m starving I was buried to go to lunch anyways after our meeting.” Quincy said, he appreciated the fact that Zachariah felt like he did, he didn’t like eating by himself either. So I made perfect sense to him.
“I thought I was the only one who didn’t like to eat alone.” Quincy said as he continued on with the conversation.
“I don’t know why but I always feel like everybody’s staring at me if I eat by myself and I just don’t like that feeling. Plus I’ll be honest I like to talk.” Zachariah said, realizing the irony of statement most the time counselors just listen to others talk.
“I know what you mean, I just don’t like being the center of attention like that. I don’t mind giving speeches and presentations where people are focusing that way I just don’t like people look at me like why is this guy sitting by himself talking to himself or not talking. To me it’s too much negative attention.” Quincy suggested to Zachariah.
“Well now you have a lunch buddy if you need one, I know I could use a company. You seem like a pretty cool guy to hang out with.” Zachariah said with the big grin on his face.
“Yeah you’re not so bad yourself buddy.” Quincy said trying to play it down a little bit, but morning humorous and comical way.
“Already riffing on me huh, well two can play this game just remember what you started buddy.” Zachariah said, shaking his head like okay this guy is going to be cool.
“Man you’re all right, I know that phrase doesn’t really make a lot of sense but I think you get its meaning. Something I heard in a movie not too long ago.” Quincy suggested, as the two of them started to leave sick bay.
“Thanks, I can see this being a sort of a good friendship.” Zachariah said, as a scene starts to fade away. The two gentlemen started to talk for a bit as a scene starts to fade away.
