LT JG Dimwalt, spotted the small group of cadets emerging from the dock as he had expected. It was his job as one of the deputy assistant adjutants for the station to come and meet and escort today’s crop of Cadets who were arriving for the next days Early Summer cadet cruise on the Exeter. “Cadets, form up on me”.

Thomas forms up with the rest of the cadets and has a brief look round, to take everything in. Lots of people, lots of families – Starfleet personnel everywhere

Dimwalt was lucky, today their was only 3 cadets arriving on this transport. The day before one of the yeoman has the unceremonious job of escorting an entire gaggle of 14 cadets around to their quarters.and the security office. “Alright, grab your gear and follow me, if anyone gets lost along the way, have the main computer guide you to the SBB security office and catch up with us there. Understood?

Hunter nods and follows the Lieutenant, still looking round and taking in all the sights. As he’s walking past a computer terminal, he makes sure to download the welcome package to his PAAD and take a brief look through the station map.

The adjutant made his was to the turbos, he immediately noticed one of the Cadets was no longer right behind him, as he peered around the crowded lower promenade, he eventually spotted the young man hurredly moveing to towards his little group. He grimaced and shook his head slightly. ~worse then herding kittens sometimes~ he thought to himself as the turbo arrived and all 4 of them got onboard. “Main security office” he barked and the turbo departed.

With the turolift moving, the Cadet found himself in an awkward silence. He was never much of a talker – especially with people he didn’t really know, but he hated silences even more

He looks to the other cadets, hoping that one of them would break the silence, but no… so it was left to him, “so you been working here long, Sir?” Thomas asked.

“Only about 5 months actually. Certainly feels like a lot longer then that some days.” Dimwalt gaze seemed to drift slightly as the turbolift eased itself to a halt. As the door opened he motioned with his arm for the cadets to exit and headed to the left down the corridor.

The three cadets, Thomas, Victor and Sally make their way down the corridor, on each side of them are paintings of the planets in the Mellstoxx system, with a carefully chosen ship in orbit.

A conversation begins between the cadets, as they wait for an officer – it is a chat they’ve had many times – Which ship is the best. Sally, being a shuttle-head always favours the quicker, more agile ships, while Victor prefers the bigger, more powerful ships, that can take a punch and hit back just as hard.

Hunter, on the other hand always liked the Olympic Class – not because of its looks, or its capabilities, but it reminds him of home.

As the group was about 10 feet away from the Sec office door, Dimwalt said ‘Its your next right cadet. There should be room for everyone so head right in and begin your intake. No sooner had he finished saying that, when the door whooshed open and a rather large Andorian who seemed distracted by his current conversation nearly ran over  Thomas, who was in the lead of his little pack, nearly collided, both in nearly full stride.

“oh my- I’m so sorry, are you ok, Sir?” Thomas gathers himself and adjusts his hair back into place, then looks around to make sure everyone else is ok.

CPO Traan was just leaving and nearly ran over another young Cadet. This was the 4th time in the 8 hours that he had been onboard the station that he had almost flattened a Starfleet Cadet just by trying to go about his business. The station seemed to be literally crawling with them. And indeed, the station nearly was crawling with them. Unbeknownst to him, the early summer Cadet Cruise aboard the USS Exeter was set to commence at 1800 hours the following. “My apologies aswell Cadet. I hope i didnt injure you at all” Traan said placing his hand next to the young mans upper arm. After ensuring the young Cadet was fine, he motioned for the young Cadets to take the right of way and go ahead and enter the security office before he carried on.

‘Thanks Chief’ The cadets muttered as they strolled passed him into the Sec office. Dimwalt and Traan exchange a professional head nodded as they moved past eachother.
