Part of Bravo Fleet: New Frontiers

USS Atlantis - USS Republic

Those Who Stare Back

When the abyss stares out, Starfleet is there to stare back.

Mission Description

With the shroud over the Shackleton Expanse gone, new frontiers await those lucky enough to get to them first. But not all frontiers should be examined.

Deep in the Expanse, hidden by the Shroud and the time it imposed on all travellers, lay the world of Leytan III. There the crews of the starships Atlantis and Republic have been dispatched to conduct Starfleet’s first indepth survey.

But what they find, perhaps shouldn’t be found.

If you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you.

While the array of projectors and scanners for the duck blind had failed, their intricate subspace connections useless even at such short ranges, one of them had at least found a use at the hands of a clever individual. The projector had been hastily attached to the camp’s main heating element, [...]

USS Atlantis: Those Who Stare Back

“Can’t sleep?” Samantha Michaels asked as she stepped up beside Republic’s Chief Science Officer. The air was cold and crisp, the harsh, dry cold of a desert night. No moisture in the air to hold heat and no heat to be had. While tents and sleeping bags would let the sleepers reside in [...]
